David Parsons is going for the Guinness World Record for the most hugs in 24 hours @ LA Live this Monday (begins Sunday night @ 11pm). We're also raising money and awareness for Grants Wishes, a nonprofit that benefits children whose are battling cancer for a second time (relapsed) or are facing never-ending treatments. A ladies only fitness club,(énergie fitness for women – Havant, 21 North Street, Havant, PO9 1PW, T: 02392 478673)
will be holding a 'hug-off' between their club mascot, Miss-Fit, and Mr Unfit between 10am and 4pm on Monday, 21st January-NATIONAL HUGGING DAY. They will be raising money from the event for a new Teenage Cancer Unit, which is being constructed at Southampton General Hospital. The unit will support young cancer patients aged 16 to 24 living in Hampshire, Dorset, Channel Islands, South Wiltshire, Isle of Wright and West Sussex. To celebrate National Hugging Day on 21 January, London is aiming to break theGuinness World Records title for the world’s longest marathon hug. This ‘Welcome to 2012’ hug from the capital launches World Record London – a 6 month campaign which will aim to make London a multi record-breaking city in a momentous year for the capital.
Hopeful record-breakers will gather at London’s St Pancras station at 7am on Thursday 19 January to begin the record, adjudicated by Guinness World Records – the universal authority on record-breaking achievement.
Huggers will be required to hug for more than 24 hours and 34 minutes to take the coveted title, ending after 7:35am on Friday 20 January.
Applications are open for budding record-breakers who’d like to kick start 2012 in London as Guinness World Record holders. Entries are also being taken from entertainers to keep the huggers going through their 24 hour marathon – singing, dancing, joke-telling or simply cheering them on.
To help London break the Guinness World Record for the world’s Longest hug visit www.worldrecordhug.com. Register to be a record-breaker, an entertainer or simply cheer on the huggers and support London.
